Street Art Mural Sparks Controversy In Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) - A huge mural on a street south of downtown Atlanta has sparked controversy, prompting some residents to paint over some of it.

The Rev. Frank Brown of Concerned Black Clergy says people in the community interpret the creatures depicted in the mural as Satan. The mural features a creature with a human body and reptile-like head that is eating fish.

Nathan Bolster, director of operations for the nonprofit group Living Walls, tells CBS Atlanta that the piece is an allegory of the human city. He said the group doesn't want to create artwork that angers residents.

WSB-TV reports that community leaders plan to meet Tuesday night to discuss how to proceed.

In August, Living Walls defended another Atlanta mural depicting a nude woman after it drew objections from some residents.
