New Homeless Coalition Forms In LaGrange
LAGRANGE, Ga. (AP) - A new homeless coalition has formed in LaGrange to address transportation and other issues facing homeless people in the west Georgia city.
Kay Elam, Executive Director of Elam's Women Shelter, estimates that the homeless population in Troup County is around 700 people.
She tells The LaGrange Daily News that most of the area's homeless people struggle with transportation issues, finding affordable housing, affording child care, providing food and clothing for their families, and finding jobs.
Elam says one goal of the coalition is to analyze ways to make transportation more affordable. One idea suggested by Elam is a bus route that loops around the city, charging $1 per passenger.
