Nearly Two-Dozen Troopers Now Guarding Ga. Capitol

ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities say more officers are now patrolling the Georgia State Capitol after a state employee was carjacked in a nearby parking lot.
Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright tells WSB-TV that 22 state troopers have been assigned toguard every entrance of the capitol and also patrol the surroundinggrounds.
Police said Public Service Commission employee Irma Correa was carjacked Dec. 29 in the State Archives Building parking lot, about 300 yards from the State Capitol.
Correa says the crime occurred during the day, around 3 p.m. She says she was walking with a co-worker when a man flashed a gun and forced his way into her vehicle. One suspect, a 17-year-old, was apprehended.
