ATLANTA (AP) - Federal authorities have joined Atlanta police to investigate a vicious attack on a man after the video was posted toYouTube.
U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said her office is trying to determine whether actions captured in the video violate federal laws, including the hate crime statute. Gay slurs are heard in the video as the attack occurs.
The video shows three attackers who pounce on a man as he walks out of a grocery store on McDaniel Street in the city's Pittsburgh neighborhood. They punch and kick him while making references to Jack City, a local street gang.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that YouTube removed the video Monday, saying it violates the website's policy against violence.
Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos said investigators are trying to identify suspects.
