Tuesday, Fran Fokos explained she is in the market for a new ride.

"I'm looking for a bike because the gas prices are astronomical," she said.

The Fort Myers, Florida resident had just filled up the tank of her Lexus.

That stop cost her almost $45 - much high that it was before gas prices skyrocketed, she said.

"I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a joke. I thought am I on hidden camera?" she said.

And she's not the only one considering a bicycle purchase to save gas.

The spike in prices has caused a spike in sales at EA Bicycles.

Al Herrera, of EA Bicycles, says many customers are buying new bikes to commute to work or the grocery store, saving at least a gallon of gas with each 20-mile trek.

"A lot of people, they buy new bikes with accessories - like they can carry backpacks or they can stop by the grocery store as well," he explained. "It's 50-percent more than it usually is this time of year."

Each gallon saved is a much-needed chunk of cash to people Fokos, who fear what's in store at the pump.

"It's supposed to get up to $4 or $5 by summer. I can't afford that. No way. No way," she said.

Despite the high rising prices, there is one upside to the two wheeled lifestyle change.

"Oh yeah, I'm going to lose some weight," Fokos said.

And to those still guzzling gas on the roads, just make sure you keep an eye out for your neighbors wearing helmets.
