Excellence goes past the court. Basketball is only part of the man.
Coach James Lunsford continues to challenge his student athletes to keep their priorities in line.
"You got to develop the total kid you can't just develop him, making him a better basketball player or football player. You got to work on him being a better student, being a better person. You got to work on the total kid," said Lunsford.
Lunsford started at BaldwinHigh School in 1969 and stayed for most of his career. He was the first black basketball coach at the school. In 1981 his Baldwin team met the ultimate goal.
22-year-old Arthur Ulon Smith is charged with stealing two air conditioning units from Highland Hills Baptist Church on Briarcliff Road.
Bibb County Sheriff's Chief Deputy David Davis says the Sheriff's Office received a tip through their Email Update program that led to Smith's arrest.
"It may look like a regular workman, that's how a lot of these metal thieves operate, they look like somebody that's there doing service on an air conditioning unit and they will not even be noticed so if you see anybody, even if they have a sign on the truck call the sheriff's office."
Smith is being held at the Bibb County LEC. He's being charged with Theft by Taking Felony, Criminal Trespass, and Battery Family Violence.
Tucked in the basement of the Flipper Chapel A.M.E. Church in Milledgeville, nearly 1,000 bags sit waiting to bring a bit of relief for a family this school year.
The 'Uniform Closet' offers clothing for students who are required to follow a specific dress code while in school. Most dress codes require students wear khaki or pressed pants and a polo shirt. But for many families, money is tight and clothes are hard to come by.
The bags are waiting for students of all ages to enjoy, and offer more than just clothes. Some are full of supplies like notebooks, pens and pencils, and even math books.
But the best part about the bags, is everything is free to those who stop out to get one. One lucky college student will also win a free laptop.
The bags will be handed out to anyone who needs a little bit of help this upcoming school year on Saturday from noon until 3:00p.m. at Bonner Park in Milledgeville.
The bags will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The event is being organized by T.H.P. Productions and Flipper Chapel A.M.E. Church.
