MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A new fire station in North Macon is one of the first SPLOST projects to get off the ground.
Chief Marvin Riggins says Fire Station 109 will serve the area from around the Shoppes at River Crossing, out to the city limits including Bass and Wesleyan roads. Riggins says he's excited about having a bigger presence in this area, and being able to respond to emergencies quicker.
"This should certainly enhance our fire coverage and public safety protection inside of the Northern Corridor of Bibb County out near which there's an enormous amount of growth and change is going on in this area. So our response time will be greatly enhanced by having a fire station here as far protection level is concerned," says Riggins.
Riggins says construction is expected to be complete by mid 2013.
