MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Judge Hugh Lawson approved the new maps for the Board of Education elections. Attorney Charles Cox, tells 41 NBC over the phone, he just received a copy of the consent granted by the judge.
Cox represents candidates for the Bibb County School Board, Lester Miller and Brenda Sutton, as well as candidate for Bibb County Commission, Gary Bechtel. The three filed a lawsuit against the School Board and the Bibb County Board of Elections, and it's executive director.
Cox says Lawson's consent says qualifications will re-open for a 48 hour period on July 9th and 10th. Anyone who has already qualified does not have to re-qualify unless their district changed.
According to the agreement of facts signed by both the defendants and plaintiffs, the only candidate who is effected is Angel Davis Hopper. She will move from District 5 to District 2. Elections will take place on August 21st, the scheduled run-off date for the primary elections.
