JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - The Academy Sports distribution center in Twiggs County is planning to expand and add 250 new jobs by June 2013. According to a news release from the governor's office, Katy, Texas-based Academy Sports + Outdoors will expand it's facility in Jeffersonville more than 500,000 square feet.
The Academy Sports distribution center opened in Twiggs County in 2007 and currently has 625 employees at the 1.1 million-square-foot facility. In 2011, Academy Sports + Outdoors added an e-commerce center, which serves the company's online retail business.
"On behalf of the Twiggs County Board of Commissioners and the community we welcome the news of Academy Sports + Outdoors' expansion," said Twiggs County Commission Chairman Ray Bennett. "Academy is an important part of this community, and we are very pleased the company's growth will take place here."
