MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A Jones county couple is behind bars for allegedly making fake money, and they could be facing federal charges.
Wayne Walker and his girlfriend Lisa Llewellyn were arrested and charged with forgery, after Jones County deputies searched their home looking for a fugitive. But, they stumbled on $8,132 in counterfeit money.
The incident happened Saturday around 5 a.m., according to Jones County Sheriff's Sgt. Travis Douglas.
"That's a lot of money, that's what I was thinking," said Jones County Deputy Jason Douglas, when he located the fake bills. "It was all over the place. It was all of the house. He had it laying everywhere. Just left it laying around like it was nothing."
U.S. Secret Service agents visited Walker at the Jones County Jail on Monday, said Sgt. Douglas. He added federal charges are pending.
The deputies found the fake cash while searching Walker's home looking for a fugitive, Micheal Upshaw. Upshaw is wanted for making terroristic threats, according to the sergeant. They did not find Upshaw, who they later learned was arrested by Warner Robins Police.
"He told us the subject was not there and insisted that we come inside and take a look," said Sgt. Douglas. "We asked him repeatedly, 'is this your friend, if he's not here do you know where he is?' He said 'no come on inside,' so we went inside. We started seeing money on the ground, $100 bills, $10 bills."
Sgt. Douglas says he continued talking to Walker, while deputy Douglas searched the home. Walker dropped a couple of bills while talking to the sergeant.
"There were bills still on white paper printed out," said the deputy. "So I just kept walking looking around the house for Upshaw, didn't find him, but, came back and advised sgt. Douglas that we had found some counterfeit money."
The sheriff's also seized a rifle and two printers they believed were used to make the funny money.
Walker and Llewellyn could face up to 15 years in federal prison, if they are found guilty of making the fake money, accoridng to Sgt. Souglas.
