Wednesday students in Perry exercised their leadership skills hoping to gain national attention. Kids at Tucker Elementary showcased what they've learned through the book, "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People." Guests were able to participate in student-led conferences, musical productions and more. The principal says this is the second year her students have participated in Leadership Day.
"It's a celebration of what we believe children are and what they will become, and it's also center around our mission and vision which is to develop one student leader one child at a time," explained Principal Dr. Kim Halstead, Tucker Elementary School.
Tucker Elementary School is working to achieve lighthouse distinction, that's leadership status on a national level.
Macon Mayor Robert Reichert has a new director of external affairs. Wednesday Bibb County Board of Education Spokesperson Chris Floore was appointed to the position. He will replace Clay Murphey who has been the director since April. Floore says he's excited to continue his service to the community.
A new head of school is announced for Tattnall Square Academy. Dr. Brenda Shuman-Riley will start next summer. She's replacing interim leader Dr. Michael Drake who stepped in when Headmaster Larry Collins was voted out of the position. Shuman-Riley is currently the Chair of the Department of Teacher Education at Middle Georgia College in Cochran.
