Kynette Park in Forsyth is getting the attention it needs to bring one of the oldest parts of the city back to life.
With more than $80,000 from grant and city money, the rehab project began in late 2011. A new clubhouse, and new pavilion are two features already off the ground. The area surrounding the park is getting cleaned up as well.
"Within the last year we've almost completely stopped the hand sale of crack cocaine and marijuana in the area," says Chief Keith Corley, Forsyth Police.
The CEO of Coliseum Health System in Macon was killed today in a plane crash in Florida. Allen Golson and his wife took off from the Middle Georgia Regional Airport this morning, and crashed in Marion County, Florida around 12:30pm. There's no word on what caused the crash.
According to NBC affiliate WESH-TV, a good samaritan told reporters the wife said they were traveling to Ocala, Florida to go house hunting.
"This is tragic news for our HCA family, and it will take time and the support of each other to deal with this loss," stated Michael Joyce, President of HCA's North Florida Division which includes Coliseum Health System. "Allen was a true friend and a great leader who enjoyed life and dedicated himself to his work. He will be deeply missed.
Golson had over 30 years of experience in public and private hospital administration. Prior to joining Coliseum, he served for nine years as CEO of Palmyra Medical Centers in Albany. He had been with HCA since 1986 serving in various administrative roles. Golson graduated with his Bachelor of Science in HealthCare Management in 1981 from the University of Alabama, and has a Master of Business Administration at the Southeastern Institute of Technology in Huntsville, Alabama. He was a Fellow in the American College of HealthCare, on the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA), and had been a Rotarian for more than 20 years.

The University System of Georgia announced the members of the consolidation committees Thursday. These are the people that will oversee the merger of Macon State College and Middle Georgia College, along with several other schools that plan to consolidate in the near future.
