JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Twiggs County Commissioners got into several fiery debates Tuesday during their regular meeting.
The commissioners went back and forth about such topics as hiring a law clerk from Mercer University law school, a library board appointment, and other issues
One of the most heated discussions was over equal pay for county employees.
Commissioner Tommie Lee Bryant says there is a major problem when some workers are paid for a 40 hour week and only work 35 hours per week. While other county employees work 40 hours in order to get 40 hours pay.
"We know that each employee don't make the same amount of salary because they have different positions and so we don't want everybody to make the same amount of pay and get the same hours of work," said Commissioner Tommie Lee Bryant. "I don't care for employees working some hours and be off and get paid and some others do not."
Twiggs commissioners tabled voting on county employees pay, until they receive a report from the county attorney about how to legally handle the issue.
