"Michelle Obama, she rolled her sleeves up and she was digging in the sweet potato patch," says Glover.

She's encouraging kids to cut down on fast food and stock up on veggies. It's part of her effort to slow down a rising epidemic.

"20 years ago obesity was at a 50% rate. It's now at a 70% rate," says Gloria Hagins, Coordinator, Let's Move Macon.

Middle Georgia Salons Help You Get "Pinked" for Breast Cancer

Written by Coreen Savitski on . Posted in Local

There is a fun way for Middle Georgia to sport pink all October to help bring awareness and raise money for breast cancer.  You can get "pinked" for the season as the 2nd annual Strands for the Cure is underway.  Wether you choose to add pink hair or a fabulous feather, or both, it costs $10 a strand.  Then at least $5 goes to Komen Central Georgia!

Macon's Signature Salon & Spa is one of at least 10 Middle Georgia salons participating in this year's strands for a cure.

"This is our second year doing it and it's so wonderful to see the breast cancer survivors and other people who are wanting to help out and do anything that they can come in and get a pink strand," said Nichole Mitchell, owner of Signature Salon & Spa.

For a list of participating salons or if you're a spa owner who wants to get involved, head to www.komencentralga.org

In 2010, the strands campaign raised $6,000 for Komen Central Georgia!

Laurens Co. Sheriff Warns of Carjacking Scams

Written by Brittany Gonzalez on . Posted in Local

The Laurens County Sheriff's Office hopes to stay a few steps ahead of scammers this holiday season.

A care free trip to the store could quickly turn into more than you bargained for.

Sheriff Bill Harrell says thieves are taking a new approach to catching you off guard. "Say you see a sticker on your car... do you pull it off before when you get into the car or do you drive down the road and say, 'this thing is aggravating me to death I believe I'm going to stop and get it off.'"
