Georgia State Fair Not Coming Back

Earlier today, the Macon Exchange Club met to decide the fate of the for 2012. President of the Georgia State Fair, Don Johstono, says despite many members with conflicting feelings, and a close vote, Central City Park will not host a fair next year.

If you were lucky enough to experience the 156th Georgia State Fair this past spring, you may go down in history as one of the last people to walk the fairgrounds.

"Central City park ought to be a center piece for Macon, it ought to be the shining jewel when visitors come into town," says Johstono.

It's not, in fact that's one reason, Johstono, and other residents, say people skipped over the city's fair to head down to Perry.

House and Senate Approve Political Maps

After three hours of debate the Georgia House and Senate each approved new political maps.

The House voted 108-64 in favor of its map, and the Senate approved its map by a vote of 35-18. This was the first time in the State's history Republicans drew the lines.

State Representative for District 138 Nikki Randall says, "There are basically some winners and losers as far as how the districts are drawn and how you fair in the areas."

Houston County Culinary Program Receives Industry Certification

Perry High School students can test out their culinary skills and receive recognition for their hard work come graduation.

The school's culinary program recently received industry certification which will allow each graduate the opportunity to become a Junior Culinarian through the American Culinary Federation.

"What we teach here in high school in culinary arts aligns with what they would be learning at a culinary college," says Culinary Teacher Crystal Quick.

The students learn everything from knife safety, to proper sanitation and overall kitchen safety.
