Many towns in middle Georgia are encouraging local shopping this holiday season. Residents of Perry say spending their dollars in town brings them a feelings of comfort and joy.
"Let's shop local, let's keep our money in our town," says Perry Chamber of Commerce President, Megan Kelly.
It seems to be this year's holiday slogan, but there's also another reason people like, Grover Jewel, choose to spend their dollars in downtown Perry.
"He was wanting to take care of me and my needs," says Jewel.
The owner of Bellamy Jewelers says part of his passion is protecting people's keepsakes.
"People develop an emotional attachment to their jewelry. It's hard to drop off you're jewelry to a stranger," says Dan Bellamy.
So, he makes it his business to care.
"They know who is working on their jewelry. They know where it's at,"
That feeling of comfort you get from buying from someone you know is what draws shoppers like Emily Heath to downtown Perry.
"I went to bigger stores, and they said they would check inventory and give me a call back, and oh I didn't hear from them."
Bellamy found her the pieces she was searching for, and he even went one step further.
"He told me he would take my bracelet and check to make sure that the other pins hadn't worn, so I had a good solid bracelet."
Parting with her possession is easier for Heath, now that she knows it's in good hands.
"They know the character of the jeweler who is performing the work," says Bellamy.
That's why, Jewel says, shopping local is the way to go.
"You know you're going to get the best deal possible, or the best service, you're going to be taken care of in other words."
It's a guarantee that's worth it's weight in gold.
