41 NBC News reached out to Rep. Austin Scott Thursday after Major General Robert McMahon announced that the Air Force is cutting more than 500 jobs at Robins Air Force Base as part of nationwide restructuring of the Air Force Materiel Command.
Rep. Scott says he plans to work with leaders in Congress to pass new legislation to protect jobs at the base.
Scott told 41 NBC News, "I'm obviously disappointed. One [job] is too many. One loss is too many. We want to expand the mission at Robins. That's what we're working to do. Each and every time we see an opportunity, we're going to work to expand the mission at Robins."
Senator Saxby Chambliss issued a statement to 41 NBC News saying, "The planned reductions at Robins... are modest and we should be thankful they are not worse."
