Mercer University officials are apologizing tonight after two students allegedly destroyed a decorative fiberglass bear in Macon's Tattnall Square Park.
The themed bear was 1 of 6 recently placed throughout the College Hill Neighborhood by the Macon Arts Alliance. According to an incident report, two Mercer students were caught kicking the statue down the street early Saturday morning. Apparently the pair had been drinking.
Spokesperson for Mercer University, Larry Brumley, says "We are embarrassed and disappointed that Mercer students engaged in such thoughtless and destructive behavior."
The Macon Arts Alliance is assessing how much a new bear will cost, but they do plan to replace the damaged one.
