The U.S. Department of Education is giving Mercer University nearly $500,000 in grant money.
It will help Mercer fund a program aimed at adults who graduated high school or who are currently seeking their GED.
The money will also help the university provide financial, academic, and admissions information to more than 2,000 people in Middle Georgia who are interested in getting a college education.
"Those people that are not used to the process who have been out of school for a while. We serve a lot of non-traditional students so it gives them an opportunity to have a place to go and start the process," says Michelle Currie, Director of TRIO Programs, Mercer University.
Currie tells us this is an opportunity for Mercer to give back to the community. The program also offers tutoring and mentoring for those working to complete their GED.
