Authorities are investigating the cause of an off-duty University of Georgia police officer's death at Lake Sinclair in central Georgia.
Officials report that 24-year-old Tyler Harris was spending the long Labor Day weekend with family at the lake when the death occurred Sunday.
UGA police Chief Jimmy Williamson said there was an accident at the lake, and Harris' body was taken to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Augusta. He did not have additional details.
Williamson said Harris, who was single and lived in Athens, joined the UGA police force in February and had only recently completed the department's field training program. He was assigned to the patrol division.
