Bibb County Schools like most Middle Georgia School Systems have been closed the last few days, which meant a day of relaxation. Not all students, however skipped out on learning.
Patrick Anuebunwa, a Senior at Central High School, had this to say about the days off of school, “Today was actually very very boring, but I chose to do that instead of probably leaning towards the video games."
He's talking about using Achieve HighPoints, an online tutorial program.
Anuebunwa uses the program to gain an edge to help him get ahead in school.
"If somebody like me really wants to get closer to graduation it gives them an extra chance to catch up on something they might not know, "said Anuebunwa.
The program is designed to help students with math and science; on days when Anuebunwa can't make it to the classroom he can still learn, because of the site's convenience.
"With the weather it really gives you a chance to have your own time, but still take the time to learn later on," says Anuebunwa.
Achieve HighPoints President and franchise owner Dontia White also said this, "When we have variables such as the weather that keep kids from inside the schoolhouse to learn they can always rely on Achieve HighPoints"
Anuebunwa spent his days off of school brushing up on Algebra to help him receive his high school diploma. He wants to fulfill a promise he made to his grandmother, who died three months ago, to go to college.
So Anuebunwa's eagerness to study, on a day where studying was the last thing on many kids minds, came as no surprise to his mother, "Patrick does stuff like this. He likes to learn, and like I said I'm so proud of him."
Achieve HighPoints is a free program. It is available to students who go to a school that has failed AYP two years in a row.According to White, 90% of students who use Achieve HighPoints score 15 points or higher on tests.
