The following is from a Bibb County School District News Release:
The Bibb County School District, including all schools and departments, will be open on Wednesday, January 12. All students, faculty, and staff should report at their normal times.
A review of the facilities indicates the power and heat is operating normally, and buses have been checked to ensure they will be running properly. Road conditions have improved; however, we are aware that some low lying areas may still have ice present. We are urging all students and parents to use caution when traveling to bus stop locations and schools. Students are asked to remain a safe distance back from the road while waiting at the bus stop.
Moving forward, the district will be discussing if and how the two days missed can be made up. This discussion will include:
*an understanding that, earlier this year, the instructional calendar was shortened from 180 to 176 days for budgetary reasons;
*a review of educational, policy, legal, and financial implications of any decisions made; and
*determining the availability of days in the school calendar that could be used as make up days.
Once a decision has been reached, it will be announced to all employees and parents in the district via our standard communication methods.
On Monday, January 17, the district will remain closed in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
The district would like to thank the community for its cooperative response to the recent winter storm, as well as to local law enforcement and emergency management personnel for their efforts in protecting our safety. We also want to acknowledge the work of our school and district personnel that assisted with the response.
