The State House seat for District 139 now belongs to democrat James Beverly. The Macon doctor spent his evening with family and friends in downtown Macon awaiting the news.
Beverly beat democrat Anissa Jones for the seat, but congratulated her for a race well run.
Beverly says there is a lot of work ahead of him when he takes office, but he looks forward to being able to move the district forward in a postive direction.
"I'm relieved. I'm relieved. I want to congratulate Anissa Jones. It was a very spirited race. It was both our first times getting out there...but we got a lot of work to do," Beverly said.
Jones said, despite losing the race, she will still be an active participant throughout her district.
"I'm going to continue to do the work that I've been doing in this district for the last 11 years. And look for me next year because there will be another election for this house seat," Jones said.
Beverly said he received a text message from Jones, congratulating him for the win.
