Today, Lieutenant Demetrius Ellison put on a display at the fire station, demonstrating the proper way to use fireworks. He says the most important part is keeping these explosives out of the hands of children. Parents who want to put on their own display this weekend need to make sure they know how to properly use them.
"Make sure that you use them outdoors only, light them one at a time. If you use them outdoors, make sure you're a safe distance away from any structures, make sure it's on level ground, no overhangs."
Lieutenant Ellison says always read the manufacturers label before lighting any fireworks. He also says to keep a bucket of water nearby just in case.
