The Washington County Sheriff's Office is searching for the suspects who broke into the Sisters Baptist Church on McCarty Road early Tuesday.
Authorities believe there is more than one thief and it was not a random act.
"They cut the wires to the back of the modem and took the modem with them so we couldn't have evidence to see who it was who came in," says Sheriff Smith.
The suspects pried open a window which led right into a Sunday School Classroom and then they headed for the secretary's office.
Pastor Burt Parker says he believes the thieves knew exactly what they were looking for. "We live amongst sinners. Jesus told us to not lay up our treasures on earth but to store up the treasure in Heaven," says Parker.
The suspects caused close to $2000 in damages to the church and got away with less than $100 in cash. Pastor Parker says he's thankful, because it could have been a lot worse.
"When our collections are taken we have counters who take it directly to the night drop box. What they took was petty cash."
