New Georgia License Plate Decals
The Georgia State Legislature approved new decals just last year. The decals simply state "In God We Trust" and can be purchased at your local tax commissioner's office.
They went on sale at the first of the year and can be placed over the county name on your license plate.
Monroe County Tax Commissioner Lori Andrews says, "All specialty tags now have a $35 annual increase, in addition to the $20 annual fee." Several people have already traded in their speciality tags for a $1 decal.
Diane Martin of Forsyth says, "When I travel...I don't like people knowing where I'm from because then they know I'm not from there..." Some drivers prefer to use the sticker for safety reasons. Other motorists just want to show their faith.
Joy Woodard stopped by the Monroe County Tax Commissioner's Office today to purchase a decal. She says, "I think it's time we let the country know that we trust in God and not other things."
The cost for a decal is just $1 and they are expected to go fast.
