MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Residents in Macon who have, or know someone living with cancer, can now share their experiences on a new website hoping to bring people together.
Thursday, city officials along with representatives from Ulyanovsk, Russia launched, StandTogether, a new initiative that will connect cancer survivors and those battling the disease from all over the world.
The goal is to provide resources and support to those people and their families.
Website creator Sergey Chernokov says dealing with the disease can be stressful, and the site aims to give hope to families who are impacted.
"Giving hope is sharing your personal true you, and that's what I hope will happen. People start engaging in discussions, share tips, inspire, support each other. A personal touch is what I'm looking for," Chernokov said.
The Ulyanovsk Regional Clinical Oncology Center, Medical Center of Central Georgia, Equal Right to Life, and the Movement Against Cancer have all partnered together in this effort.
Chernokov says the goal is to eventually get the site all over the country, one step at a time.
