JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Twiggs County Sheriff Darren Mitchum is vowing to leave no stone unturned, in order to find a man who has been missing for nearly two years.
Macon Regional Crimestoppers has joined the sheriff's office in the search for Troy Burnette.
The agencies made the announcement Friday, in a news conference.
A $1,000 reward is being offered by Crimestoppers for information to locate the 49-year-old man.
Burnette was last seen walking down Georgia Highway 80 in Jeffersonville.
Ida McClinton says her son's disappearance has taken a toll on the family.
"It has been really devastating and tiresome and hurting and everything else for the last two years," McClinton said.
Burnette is the only missing persons case still unsolved since Mitchum became sheriff in 2005.
"Somebody out there knows what happened to Troy and if somebody knows what happened to Troy then somebody else knows what happened to Troy," said Sheriff Mitchum. "So, in a case where you offer a reward for the information, sometimes it can help to bring information forward."
Sheriff deputies, investigators, fire and rescue along with the Georgia State Patrol did a massive aerial and ground search shortly after he was reported missing. They searched for Burnette for more than a week including on Christmas Day.
Mitchum says his office suspects foul play because of the length of time Burnette has been missing. However, he admits they do not have any evidence to prove there has been any foul play involved in the case.
Still, McClinton is hoping to hear some good news about her son. She says she is thankful the sheriff has not forgotten about her son.
"We haven't had any news or closure or anything. We want some type of closure to find out at least what happened to him."
Burnette's family says he has trouble seeing and left home without his medication. If he does not take it, he has seizures.
Anyone with information about Burnette is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-877- 68- CRIME. You can remain anonymous and still receive the $1,000 reward.
