GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Jones County Commissioner Jonathan Pitts says county officials will not be fired in the near future.
All was quiet at the called meeting Tuesday night, following a heated session a week ago. 41NBC was first to report on closed-door discussion of possibility of firing assistant county administrator Margie Tyson, her supervisor Mike Underwood and human resources director Jill Thompson.
According to Pitts, communication problems amongst the commission were the root cause of the debate. He doesn't think any of those officials will ultimately lose their jobs.
"The only thing we're going to do is we may have some meetings to review their job description," he said, "and explain the expectations that we have for each one of our employees so it can continue to move our county forward."
Last week, Thompson resigned and tonight the board voted to post her job on the government website and in the local paper. Tyson remains at her post and Underwood is on sick leave.
