MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Authorities have released the identity of the man who fell 40 feet to his death while fleeing from police.
Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley said the deceased is 32-year-old Joseph Clark, Jr. of Warner Robins.
On Wednesday morning, Macon police were patrolling buildings in the Presidential Parkway Shopping Center when they noticed two men parked behind one of the closed buildings.
Officers used pepper spray on one man after they both became combative. Clark ran from the scene, scaled a fence behind the building, and jumped over it.
According to a news release, the officer knew of a large drop off behind the fence and shouted a warning to the Clark not to jump. They later found him at the bottom of the drop off. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Miley said Clark's autopsy is still pending.
