MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A plant that only blooms every 25 to 50 years is now preparing for a full display in Macon.
The 'century plant' or the Agave Americana is attracting a lot of attention off of Mason and Carroll Streets. The 20 foot species is slowly budding and towering over the homes in the neighborhood and can be seen for miles. Although, it doesn't necessarily take a century to see the plant blossom. People on the street estimate it hasn't bloomed in about 10 years.
"I just noticed it about three weeks ago," Mack Patterson said, "I don't think it's done growing."
Once the plant fully blooms, the yellow flowers generally grow 26 feet tall.
