MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A special group is hosting a Kentucky Derby viewing party Saturday night right here in Macon.
Jay's HOPE Foundation is putting on the seventh annual "Celebrate Hope: An Evening at the Races."
The event benefits the Jay's HOPE Foundation. It was founded in 2006 by Jason and Cindy Gaskins after they lost their five-year-old son, Jay, to a brain tumor. The foundation helps improve the quality of life for other children who are fighting cancer and their families.
Saturday, when the race starts in Kentucky, they'll show it on the big screen at Idle Hour Country Club, and prizes will be available for those who pick the winning horse, but the fun won't stop there.
"We've got silent auction items, we have five live auction items, we have a reverse raffle," says Jason Gaskins. "We have an opportunity to win $5,000 cash, and we'll have heavy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar as well."
All the events will kick off around 5 p.m. and the race itself—better known as "The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports"—starts around 6:20. If you can't make it to the viewing party, you can check out the derby right here on 41NBC.
