WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - The City of Warner Robins wants the man behind bringing a minor league baseball team to town to know they fully support his effort.
At the council meeting Monday, local businessman John Hughes asked the mayor and council to back his efforts, explaining that the city wouldn't have to pay for it.
After getting more information this week, the city sent Mr. Hughes a letter encouraging him to pursue his plan to get a baseball team in the city.
They'll make it official at the next council meeting, and Hughes will have 18 months to get the team started. After that, the city can entertain other options.
Earlier this month, Hughes also got approval from the Houston County Board of Commissioners to move forward with his plan. He has already conducted one part of a feasibility study and will continue now that he has both the city and county's approval.
He has not discussed in public the details of the proposal in order to protect his financial interests.
