HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - The Houston County Sheriff's Office says a suspect is in custody in connection with the death of 26-year-old Chassity Lester of Hawkinsville.
30-year-old Brandon Davis of Macon turned himself in to the office Wednesday morning. He was held in Houston County until being booked into the Bibb County LEC just before 6. He's charged with Felony Murder and Probation Violation.
Lester's uncle tells 41NBC Davis is the father of the couple's child.
Lester's body was found Tuesday in a patch of woods off Fairground Boulevard in north Houston County.
A release from the office says at approximately 3:30 Tuesday afternoon, the Houston County 911 Center received a call from an unidentified caller that a deceased female was located off Fairground Boulevard.
Responding deputies discovered the body in a wooded area.
Houston County Sheriff's Investigators were called to the scene and saw the victim had visible injuries.
Capt. Jon Holland with the Houston County Sheriff's Office tells us the investigation led to a home in Macon, where a "violent" crime occured, but he wouldn't elaborate on what led investigators there or where the home was located. He also said the case has since been turned over to Macon Police.
MPD spokesperson Jami Gaudet tonight tells us the home is located at 3691 Flamingo Drive and that's where police think the crime took place.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones confirmed the body found Tuesday was that of 26-year-old Chassity Lester of Hawkinsville.
Investigators say Lester was last seen on Monday at approximately 2 p.m. driving a brown 2006 Ford Fusion. That vehicle has been recovered in Macon.
The Houston County Sheriff's Office says a Georgia Bureau of Investigation examination of Lester's body revealed she died of "multiple sharp and blunt force trauma."
Gaudet says MPD is thankful to the Houston County Sheriff's Office, Bibb County Sheriff's Office, GBI and the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force for their help in the joint investigation.
