MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One of Macon's favorite furry friends celebrated his birthday this weekend by helping others.

AC Pup, the mascot for Central Georgia CARES hosted a food drive for his fourth birthday. In AC's honor, the group collected pounds of dog and cat food to help homeless pets across the area.

"The people have been so generous," said Patti Jones, director of Central Georgia CARES, "CARES helps rescue groups with this food, we help needy families with this food and we help feral animals with this food."

According to Jones, since October, Central Georgia CARES has found homes for nearly 200 animals. She said it's all thanks to the group's caring partners and the Middle Georgia community.
