Staton Trying to Pass Bill to Abolish Payne City, Lucas Won't Sign

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -- State Senator Cecil Staton says, if State Senator David Lucas doesn't sign off on a local bill to abolish Payne City, Staton will take it before the full senate for a vote.

Staton filed the House Bill 28 along with his bills that address non-partisan elections. Since- Payne City residents didn't pass consolidation in their district, Georgia legislators would have to vote on a local bill to make them a part of the process.

Staton believes it's inefficient to leave that piece of the county out.

The bill needed signatures from both Lucas and Staton to through as a local bill. Lucas didn't sign the legislation, and says he won't until he hears from Payne city residents.

Staton says he will file a general bill if Lucas doesn't sign off on House Bill 28 this week.
