MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Tractor Supply is looking for 100 additional employees to work at its distribution center in Bibb County.
"This facility is actually going to serve about 180 to 250 stores in the Southeast region," said Sheknita Davis, Macon-Bibb County Workforce Investment Board project manager.
The company originally projected to hire 200 workers, but now anticipates it will need more.
Construction is well underway at the $50 million dollar center. H&M Construction companies along with local contractors like the Appling Brothers are working to turn the once empty field into a 700,000 foot facility.
"The employees that are involved with the construction activity are local labor, local contractors," said Steven Adams, Macon-Bibb County Industrial authority project manager,
"They're making a substantial investment in our community."
Now Davis is working to find the best candidates for the positions. Her office has received nearly 1,000 phone calls of interested applicants and now there are more seats to fill. Davis plans to have the extra employees hired sooner, rather than later.
"At the end of April, beginning of May, Tractor Supply will begin a massive hiring event in this area," Davis said.
When the project is complete, the $50 million center will serve as one of the largest in the southeast.
