MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A local humane society is saving lives, one pet at a time.
In 2012, Macon Purrs N Paws rescued hundreds of animals from high kill shelters across Georgia.
Those shelters included one in Columbus, Warner Robins, Jones County and here in Macon.
The organization's founder, Anne Brennaman, tells us 787 animals (mostly cats) were rescued from the shelters, and 592 of them (or around 75%) were adopted out to loving families.
Just a year and half after it started, Brennaman says she's been overwhelmed at the group's success.
"Macon Purrs N Paws is not this building," says Brennaman. "It's not me as the founder. Macon Purrs N Paws is the volunteers; it's their hard work. It's the donors--the people who support us, and the congratulations and all the kudos go out to them."
Brennaman wants to remind you Macon Purrs N Paws is a non-profit organization and is run entirely by donations.
If you'd like to adopt a pet for the new year of if you want to donate or volunteer at the shelter, give them a call at (478) 719-5808.
