PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The city of Perry has named Steve Lynn as the new police chief, six months after former Chief George Potter retired.

Lynn is an investigator at the Houston County District Attorney's Office, and has nearly 30 years experience in law enforcement matters. Lynn accepted the job this month and told 41 NBC on the phone he "looks forward to getting to work". He plans on starting sometime in January.

In December, city officials narrowed the search to two finalists: Lynn and J.T. Ricketson. Ricketson is a special agent with the Middle Georgia Regional Drug Enforcement Office. Both candidates were interviewed by the council before selected.

Perry's former police Chief Potter retired in June due to health issues.
