MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An early morning robbery led to a high speed chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies across two counties.
According to a Macon Police Department news release, police arrived at the Wal-Mart off Gray Highway around 2:40 a.m. Thursday. Twenty-eight year old Tabitha Michelle Whitehead stole four televisions and was last seen in a beige Cadillac SUV with a personalized tag number, MPD says.
The patrol officer found Whitehead and the car on a side street near the store. Police say the officer attempted to do a traffic stop, but Whitehead drove away on I-75 toward Monroe County. MPD says she lost control of the car after a front tire blew out and stopped near exit 205.
The stolen televisions were recovered from Whitehead's vehicle and returned to Wal-Mart.
Whitehead was taken to the Bibb County LEC and arrested for felony by theft by shoplifting, eluding police, reckless driving, traffic offense (failure to obey traffic control device), failure to maintain lane, and no driver's license.
Whitehead is currently being held at the LEC on a $4,970 bond. According to the Bibb County Law Enforcement records this is Whitehead's 15th arrest since 2001.
