Irwinton, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Opening statements are set to begin in the Zachary Allen Beck murder trial.
Ocmulgee District Attorney Fred Bright tells 41 NBC attorneys spent all day Monday selecting a jury. He says 250 people were summoned and it was standing room only in the courtroom. The potential jurors were questioned. Both the state and defense selected 12 jurors and three alternates.
Beck is on trial for the murder of 54-year-old Ronnie Willis Rozier. Almost two years ago, Beck allegedly robbed and killed Rozier at his home off Parker Spring Church Road in McIntyre. Rozier's body was found January 6, 2011 and he had been shot numerous times.
Beck is charged with one count malice murder, one count felony murder, and one count armed robbery.
Opening statements begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Wilkinson County Superior Courthouse. Bright anticipates the trial to last all week long.
