MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A Church in downtown Macon has a vandalism problem, but no, it doesn't involve spray paint...it involves cockroaches.
Surveillance video taken of the suspect shows him throwing something out of a cup onto the door and the doormat. Shortly after the surveillance video was taken, parishioners found dozens of cockroaches (dead and alive) in front of the church door and in the foyer. 41NBC spoke with James Denson, who's wife is the pastor at Fountain Temple A.M.E. Church. He says he doesn't understand why someone would do this.
"We are offering up a reward for his capture and for his conviction," Denson says, then offered this invitation to the alleged vandal. "I'd like him to come to church, really, and enjoy our services...instead of trying to destroy the church, 'cause this is no way to live. We are a Christian people and we want everyone to come to church and enjoy coming to church."
Denson tells us this is an ongoing problem, and cameras were installed because of other issues. He says he doesn't know the man in the video, but he has an idea of who might be behind the prank.
earlier today, he filed a report with macon police. If you have any information, please call Macon police.
