10-Year-Old Atlanta Hip-Hop Artist Shoots Anti-Bullying Music Video in Milledgeville
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - An Atlanta-based hip hop artist came to Milledgeville today, to shoot a video spreading the word about a very hot button issue--and he's only 10 years old. Yung Mieo says it's time to face the music when it comes to bullying.
"The song is really just about having fun at the playground, but since I did this bullying message I thought I would add a little bullying to it," says the recording artist.
The song "Playground" is really about a first crush, but the budding music star wanted the video to tackle a much heavier subject.
"It shows kids that bullying is not right and that we need to stand up," says Brice Adams, who played a bully in the music video.
"I see everyone getting bullied everyday and sometimes I get bullied," video extra Kenleigh Johnson tellS 41NBC, "and finally I want to just stop it."
The Fun Factory in Milledgeville invited Yung Mieo to come and shoot his video with local kids, after wowing them with a special concert.
"He was someone with a positive message that the kids could identify with, the kids could relate to," says Patti Rushin, co-owner of the Fun Factory. Mieo tells me it was his own personal experience with bullying, that inspired him to get in on the movement to stop it.
"My sister came home one day crying because her friend committed suicide over a bully, and I learned from that a lesson, and I want to express the lesson to all the kids," he says.
It's a lesson learned the hard way, especially for a ten-year-old, but Mieo's manager says who better than a ten-year-old to spread the message about an issue that's really hurting kids around the country.
"Kids are inundated so much today with the wrong message," says Johnny Dixon, Mieo's manager. "Mieo is all about inspiring kids to do the right thing."
It's music with a message, and as one of his songs says, if you want to be like M to the I to the E to the O, just listen.
"I'm Yung Mieo and I approve this message," says the artist with a smile.
