MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Today, it's the end of an era at Macon State College. The 2012 graduating class is the last class that will see that name on their degrees, since Macon State College merged with Middle Georgia College.
The 2012 graduating class was the largest graduation class in school history. More than 800 graduates at Macon State College received their degrees. Some graduates say it's bittersweet knowing that they are the final graduation class of Macon State College.
"Macon State you will be missed. But before you go on to do great things as Middle Georgia State College, the class of 2012 would like to remind you of one thing; you saved the best for last," said Jake Morrison, Graduate.
"I have always been a fan of Middle Georgia and Macon State, so I think it's a pretty good combo. It will be awesome when the university part is added," said Sara Burnett, Graduate.
Earlier this week the Board of Regents voted to change the name of Macon State College to Middle Georgia State College starting in January 2013. In the summer of 2014, the university's permanent name will be Middle Georgia University.
