MUSELLA ,Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)-The unusual warm weather and short winter this year have caused farmers across the state to rethink their strategy when it comes to harvesting their crops. It was a short winter in Middle Georgia. And now, farmers across the state are picking crops earlier than ever this year. It's been a busy week for Dickey Farms. Each peach has to be harvested from the orchard and then washed and graded.
The owner of Dickey Farms in Musella, Robert Dickey says they started picking peaches earlier this week.
"Georgia has the advantage of getting on the market in the country early, and we have a great growing region right here in Middle Georgia. Hopefully, we can get peaches shipped all over the southeast in the country here within the next few weeks," said Robert Dickey.
Peach season lasts for about 4 months. Dickey Farms is the oldest operating peach packing-house in Georgia.
