MACON,Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- A Former Warner Robins City Councilman facing federal extortion charges was in court today. John Williams is charged with extortion, making false statements to a federal agent, and tampering with a witness. In September of last year,federal agents claim Williams received 1,720 dollars commission after a vehicle was sold to the police department.
Jury selection was held today at the Federal Courthouse. Out of a pool of around 70 jurors, 14 were chosen for this case. Prosecutors asked several questions to narrow the selection down. Some of the questions were simple questions like where do you work, do you have family members in law enforcement, and do you personally know anyone on the Warner Robins City Council. Opening statements started just after 4 o'clock. The trial will resume tomorrow morning at 9.
