New Bibb Co. Schools Superintendent, Dr. Romain Dallemand, presented his entry plan Thursday night to the board of education.
Reoccurring themes from the new superintendent include better community relations and overall change for the school district. The meeting marks the beginning of a new era for the Bibb County School System.
"They do want change, they do want to improve the system, and they do want a school system that is designed to meet the needs of each and every child," said Dallemand.
Dallemand says changes are on the way as he briefed the board of education on his entry plan. Becoming familiar with the district is step number one for the new superintendent.
"I am talking with our staff members. I am talking with our administrators. I am reviewing information; so far I've reviewed over 500 pages of data around student achievement and student discipline and the structure of the departments and their goals," said Dallemand.
The superintendent's plan is based on three core values: high student achievement, access and equity, and accountability. Dallemand says there will be changes in the overall structure of the school district and possibly the front office.
"I am committed to changing the structure, the organizational structure as well as the leadership structure of the school district and I am still assessing the different departments. I'm pretty sure that pretty soon I will conclude which way that we're going to move forward," said Dallemand.
Dallemand proposes a new welcome center for the school district, to give the community better access to information and he plans to establish a new culture of transparency between the district and the public. He plans to hire a third party to come in and do an educational audit by March.
"We need to know where we are academically and I do need a third party to give me an opinion," said Dallemand.
Dallemand says the goal is to have the district's leadership team in place by this June and the overall strategic plan for Bibb County Schools by December of this year.
