MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A majority of the employees transferring to Bibb County from the City of Macon will continue to earn their pension under the city's retirement plan.
The Employee Development and Compensation Committee approved changes to the current Macon Pension and Retirement system.
64 employees who built up their retirement in the city's plan will stay with them, and the county will make payments into the fund. 26 of the employees transferring, who are not currently in the pension system, will carry over their years of service to the county pension fund.
"It was just easier in terms of simplicity for them to stay in our plan, rather than to try to take out the assets that belong to them into the county's plan. It just made more sense it was cleaner, and our benefits are a little bit richer so it was better for the employees for that to happen," says Lauren Benedict, Macon City Council.
The committee voted unanimously for the changes. Full council will have a final vote at their meeting next Tuesday.
