MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - The Bibb County SPLOST Committee met for the first time today to establish some ground rules. In their first meeting, the committee made up of seven community members got right down to business.
The big agenda item was a motion to have city and county leaders bring an overview of their SPLOST projects to the next committee meeting. The group wants the local leaders to specify how they plan to keep them up to date on the following:
- Financial plans
- Project updates and priorities
- Inclusion of local workers, and women and minority groups in projects
- Acquiring goods and services for the projects
- Communication between leaders and the group moving forward
"I'm very excited about the first meeting, and I think the results were very good and so I do think that is a good sign of things to come," says committee Chairman, Don Slagle.
The seven members agreed that their obligation is to voters, and the taxpayers. Their main goal is to act responsibly on behalf of Bibb County residents.
They have not set a date for their next meeting. The group is planning to move the meetings to evenings, and hold once a month to start. They want to make it easier for community members to attend.
