WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) Today, the Georgia Military Affairs Coordinating Committee spent the morning in Warner Robins strategizing on how to best protect Robins Air Force Base from a potential round of base closures.
GMACC Executive Director, Major General David Bockel, says the group has started collecting data on the economic impact of Robins. Specifically, the number of jobs the base creates and its role on our National Defense.
Bockel says the data will show how crucial the base is to the entire state and give Robins an edge.
"If there is a BRAC we don't know what format it'll take. If they have hearings or whether or not the BRAC commissioners will be asking the questions or we'll be providing the presentations...maybe it's a combination of both I really don't know. We'll know a little more as we get closer to it," says Bockel.
BRAC could happen on Robins Air Force Base as soon as next year. If it doesn't Bockel says these measures will still help Robins fight other defense cuts.
